During a recent appearance on Nigeria Info FM, prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Segun Sowunmi offered pointed criticism of former presidential candidate Peter Obi’s political methodology and approach to democratic governance.

Speaking on the radio program, Sowunmi expressed skepticism about Obi’s political strategy while acknowledging his presidential ambitions. “Good luck to Peter Obi, but Nigerians are not going to wait for him,” Sowunmi stated during the interview.

The PDP chieftain went on to address broader questions about Igbo representation in Nigerian politics, suggesting that alternative leadership could emerge from the region. “If Peter Obi cannot be president as an Igbo person, one day, at some point, we will find an Igbo person,” he remarked.

Sowunmi also referenced past electoral support provided to Obi, questioning the effectiveness of such backing. “We gave him the structure in two governorship elections. What was the result? Even the Labour Party, where is the result?” he asked rhetorically.

Perhaps most critically, the PDP leader challenged what he characterized as Obi’s individualistic approach to politics. “He designs politics as if it’s a selfish government of one individual,” Sowunmi asserted, before emphasizing fundamental democratic principles. “In a democracy, you must have the capacity to negotiate with your peers.”

The comments represent a significant critique from within Nigeria’s political establishment regarding Obi’s methods and collaborative capabilities in the democratic process.
