South African politician and leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema has reignited debate on the future of the African continent with his bold call for political and economic unification.
Speaking in a video shared by News Central TV from 1:12, Malema insisted that Africa must transcend colonial borders and embrace a new order of unity under one leadership and one currency.
“We demand one Africa. We demand borderless Africa, we demand Africa with one president, with one currency,” Malema declared emphatically.
According to him, the artificial boundaries imposed during the colonial era have continued to hinder progress, trade, and cooperation among African nations. He argued that dismantling borders would create a stronger, more self-reliant continent capable of competing with global powers on equal footing.
Malema, known for his radical Pan-African views, maintained that the vision of a united Africa is not only feasible but necessary for the survival and prosperity of the continent. He pointed out that the fragmentation of African states has left the continent vulnerable to exploitation by foreign interests.
“Africa cannot continue to be divided and weak while others consolidate their power. We must unite, politically and economically, to reclaim our dignity,” he said.
His call has sparked widespread conversations across social and political circles. While some analysts see the idea as ambitious but impractical given the diverse political systems and economic disparities in Africa, others view it as a rallying cry that could inspire a new wave of Pan-African consciousness.
Malema’s demand echoes the visions of early African leaders like Kwame Nkrumah, who championed the idea of a United States of Africa. Whether his call gains political traction or remains symbolic, it has once again placed African unity at the center of continental discourse.
