Nigerian lawyer and author Dele Farotimi has launched a scathing attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the party serves as a protective umbrella for politicians seeking to shield themselves from corruption charges.

During an interview on News Central TV, Farotimi characterized the ruling party as fundamentally lacking in integrity. “See, a person has to have shame before they can self-censor themselves. The APC is completely shameless. It has no shame, none of them is ashamed of being called thieves,” he stated.

The legal practitioner referenced a controversial incident involving the party’s leadership to support his claims. “After all, the chairman of the party was a man caught on video with money being stuffed in Babanriga,” Farotimi alleged, referring to what appears to be a widely circulated video involving party officials.

He argued that politicians strategically align with the APC for protection rather than ideological reasons. “The politicians you see jumping into it—they are jumping into that party in order to protect their loot, to make sure that nobody carries them,” Farotimi claimed.

To illustrate his point, the lawyer specifically referenced former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, suggesting that political affiliation influences law enforcement actions. “Look at our friend Tambuwal. If Tambuwal did not have any skeleton in his cupboard, nobody will carry him now,” he stated.

Farotimi then used his own situation to contrast the treatment of party members versus non-members. “I’m in my house. Why haven’t they come to carry me that I stole money? But they went to carry Tambuwal,” he concluded, implying that enforcement actions may be selective based on political considerations.

His allegations raise questions about the relationship between political party membership and accountability in Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts, though the claims represent his personal observations and have not been independently verified.
