Anambra State Governor Professor Charles Soludo has disclosed that 76 communities in the state have never had public primary schools constructed.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Governor Soludo outlined his administration’s commitment to building new educational facilities across underserved areas. “We’re now going to be building brand new schools in communities. About 76 communities in Anambra had never seen a public primary school since the creation of Adam and Eve. And we’re now going to start getting primary schools in those communities and secondary schools, as it were,” Soludo stated.

Governor Soludo clarified that he will not resort to borrowing funds to construct educational facilities, emphasizing his administration’s cautious approach to debt financing. He cited Anambra State’s withdrawal from the World Bank’s NG-CARES loan program as evidence of this fiscal discipline.

The Governor explained that the NG-CARES loan arrangement had been negotiated before he assumed office as Governor, during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Upon reviewing the loan terms after taking office, he made the decision to withdraw Anambra from the program, making it the only state to reject participation.

According to Soludo, when approximately 438 million naira was distributed among participating states last year, Anambra did not receive any portion of the funds due to its withdrawal from the program. He noted that this pattern continued with a recent distribution of about 50 billion naira, from which Anambra again received nothing.

The Governor characterized these decisions as reflecting his intentional and deliberate approach to managing public resources.
