I want to recall what Mr. President himself said: “we must tighten our belts; this is the time for us to sacrifice.” If that is the case, why is it that political office holders are unwilling to make the same sacrifice? Why should the burden fall only on the citizens?
And what exactly is this burden? Beyond their salaries, let us talk about the allowances of political office holders, their estacode when they travel abroad, and other entitlements they enjoy. Some even ride in armored, bulletproof vehicles—luxuries that stand in stark contrast to the suffering of the people.
He suggests that leaders should lead by example, potentially by accepting lower salaries and reducing extravagant allowances and entitlements like armored cars and foreign trips. He emphasizes that increasing the burden on citizens through measures like raising political office holders’ salaries is insensitive and potentially politically suicidal.
