FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has praised Nigerian security agencies for successfully apprehending top Ansaru terrorist leaders Mahmud Muhammad Usman and Mahmud Al-Nigeri, whom he claims American and British forces have been trying to apprehend for years with their advanced technology.

Speaking in an interview with Channels TV from 12:17, Wike highlighted international recognition of Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts. “I’ve never for some time heard anybody saying look at the steps the government has been taking on security. For the first time, look at the United States, United Kingdom commending the Nigerian government on terrorism,” Wike stated.

The FCT Minister emphasized that Nigerian armed forces succeeded where Western powers had failed in tracking these terrorist leaders. “The US and UK have been looking for these terrorists for years, and you know what? America and the United Kingdom, with all their contacts and communications and technologies that they have, could not get them, but our security agencies were able to track them,” he declared.

Wike noted the international acknowledgment of Nigeria’s achievement in the operation. “And they said, ‘Look, we commend you.’ We have suffered as a result of activities of these terrorists,” he said.

The minister expressed optimism about Nigeria’s progress in combating terrorism and insurgency. “But from what it looks like now, they have really been penetrated, and this insecurity is likely coming down. We must commend government when they have put up efforts,” Wike said.

Minister Nyesom Wike also credited the Tinubu administration with resolving the chronic financial crisis that previously forced state governors to seek federal bailouts. He revealed how governors had previously been compelled to make frequent trips to Abuja requesting financial assistance from the federal government.

Wike acknowledged his own participation in the bailout system, stating that he was among the governors who received federal government financial assistance during the previous administration. He noted that while economic conditions were severely challenging at the time, the states eventually repaid the bailout funds they had received.

The Minister highlighted a significant shift in the current fiscal landscape, pointing out that no state government is currently seeking federal bailouts, and similarly, no local government is approaching state governments for financial rescue packages. He interpreted this development as evidence that a fundamental problem has been addressed.

According to Wike, this improvement indicates that states now have access to more substantial funding, enabling them to pursue development projects independently without relying on federal intervention. He characterized this change as a notable achievement of the current administration’s financial policies.
