Renowned Nigerian prophet, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has issued a stern warning to the Lagos State government, urging urgent preventive measures against a looming cholera outbreak in the state.

In a message delivered on Saturday, Ayodele cautioned that Lagos could soon experience a health crisis if proactive steps are not taken immediately. He emphasized that the threat, if ignored, would not only result in loss of lives but also bring embarrassment to the leadership of the state.

“I am seeing cholera in Lagos. It is coming, and it is going to kill people,” Ayodele declared. “This is not in Abuja; it is Lagos. I am warning the governor of Lagos State and the commissioner for health: do something urgently. If not, it will be a big shame to them and the state government.”

The cleric stressed that his prophecy was not intended to instill fear but to prompt urgent preventive action. He urged the Ministry of Health in Lagos to intensify public health campaigns, improve sanitation, and provide immediate interventions to curb the spread of waterborne diseases.

“Lagos State government or governor or ministry for health, take caution of this. I am sounding this warning from the Lord. It is not a joke,” Ayodele added.

Cholera, an acute diarrheal illness caused by ingesting contaminated food or water, has historically been a recurring public health concern in Nigeria, especially in densely populated areas with sanitation challenges. Public health experts have often warned that Lagos, being the country’s most populous city, is particularly vulnerable to such outbreaks if preventive systems are not consistently strengthened.

Ayodele emphasized that failure to act swiftly would result in severe consequences. “This is a warning. If they take it seriously, it can be prevented. But if they neglect it, lives will be lost and the state will suffer disgrace,” he warned.

Health authorities in Lagos are yet to respond to Ayodele’s prophecy, but the message adds to growing concerns about Nigeria’s preparedness in handling infectious disease outbreaks amid ongoing economic and environmental challenges.

The cleric concluded by urging residents of Lagos to also take personal responsibility for their health by maintaining hygiene, ensuring safe water consumption, and seeking medical attention promptly if symptoms arise.
