Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has reacted strongly to suggestions that he is planning to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). This comes after a video surfaced online showing a group welcoming him to the party.
In a short clip posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Melaye is seen in conversation with someone while another person, behind the camera, jokingly declares, “We are happy to receive him; Dino is on his way to the APC.” Melaye, clearly unimpressed by the statement, responds by accusing the individual of seeking a political appointment and using his name as a joke to gain favor.
Alongside the video, Melaye posted a caption rejecting any association with the APC. He wrote, “Dog no dey chop kolanut. God forbid… I can not live in the wilderness of darkness and wickedness. No use me find appointment I beg.”
Melaye’s firm denial comes weeks after he officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July 2025. At the time, he cited the party’s failure to provide effective leadership and its inability to meet the expectations of Nigerians. He expressed deep frustration with the PDP’s internal issues and lack of progress on national concerns.
His resignation followed an earlier suspension from the PDP in September 2024. The suspension was issued by the Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 executive committee in Kogi State, accusing him of anti-party activities. According to the committee, Melaye’s actions were harmful to the party’s unity and reputation.
Despite stepping away from the PDP, Melaye has made it clear he has no intention of returning to the APC, a party he has often criticized. His social media post quickly went viral, drawing numerous reactions from users, many of whom took to the comments to either support his stance or speculate about his next political move.
Melaye’s political future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear—he has no plans to return to what he describes as a “wilderness of darkness.”
