Labour Party National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, has alleged that politicians who switch allegiances between parties can best be described as “political prostitutes” who lack ideology and contribute to Nigeria’s leadership crisis. He explained that the absence of firm ideological grounding often leads to mistaken perceptions of credibility among leaders who, in reality, are unreliable.
He further alleged that Peter Obi’s call for Obidients to vote for the ADC after INEC rejected Labour Party’s candidates was misguided. According to him, if INEC later updates its list to include LP candidates, Obi’s position would collapse and make him “look foolish.”
He said in an interview with Trust TV, “I call those people who are belonging to one party and another political prostitutes. That’s the best word to describe them because they don’t have ideology. They don’t have ideology. And that is why we are having problems with mistaken identity. We mistake people that we say yes, they are credible.
They have ideology. They are leaders. But unfortunately they are not. If by posting this, if tomorrow INEC updates their list, then what will he do? He will look foolish. What is his problem? Is he a political party leader? We are the political party leaders.”
