According to IRNA, on August 12, 2025, Iran is willing to negotiate a win-win compromise that would remove international sanctions in exchange for minimal constraints on its nuclear program, according to Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister.

Speaking to Japan’s Kyodo News, Takht-e-Ravanchi emphasized that Iran seeks a mutually beneficial accord that includes the US.

The “non-negotiable necessity” of uranium enrichment for Iran’s nuclear programs, he clearly stated. He emphasized that this element is crucial and cannot be ignored in any situation.

Iran is prepared to negotiate a reduction in enrichment levels but will never agree to do away with the practice altogether. “It is simple and clear: if the US insists on zero enrichment, then we have no deal,” Takht-e-Ravanchi declared.

Stressing the importance of independence, he said that Iran would rather not depend on “empty promises.” The deputy foreign minister conceded that Iran has the right to seek reparations for losses caused by previous conflicts.

He did, however, make it clear that discussing pay during negotiations is not a prerequisite to resuming them. “Washington must guarantee that it will not attack Iran again if negotiations resume,” Takht-e-Ravanchi added, outlining a crucial need for the nuclear talks to continue.

The situation has escalated since June 13, when Israel launched a massive offensive against Iran, and since then, the United States has taken military action targeting Iranian nuclear sites, leading to his comments. Oman has facilitated indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington prior to the escalation of tensions.

The diplomatic process has been further complicated by the recent airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, which were justified by the US and Israel as a means to prevent the development of nuclear weapons.

With wider regional tensions continuing, the future of future negotiations is unknown, since Iran’s stance shows a desire to find common ground while drawing firm lines on fundamental concerns.
