Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has showered rare praise on former Imo State Governor and philanthropist, Chief Rochas Okorocha, for his decades-long contributions to the development of Northern Nigeria.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, Sani lauded Okorocha’s unwavering commitment to uplifting disadvantaged communities in the region, describing his efforts as unmatched by any other figure from Nigeria’s South East.

“No man from the South Eastern Part of Nigeria has so much dedicated his life and resources for the uplifting and developing Northern Nigeria like Chief Rochas Okorocha for over 35 years. This is not politics but an appreciation and a reminder of good people whose selfless service and generosity was forgotten or ignored by a society drowned in politics and perennial deceit,” Sani wrote.

Okorocha, widely known for his philanthropic works through the Rochas Foundation, has established free schools in several Northern states, including Kano, Sokoto, Bauchi, Jos, Yola, and Zaria. These institutions provide tuition-free education, accommodation, feeding, and uniforms to thousands of indigent children regardless of ethnicity or religion.

Beyond secondary education, Okorocha’s partnership with the University of Jos has seen many beneficiaries from the North transition into higher education, addressing the region’s high out-of-school population. His consistent advocacy for Almajiri education has also positioned him as a voice for educational reform in Northern Nigeria.

In recognition of his contributions, the Daura Emirate Council in Katsina State honoured him with the title “Magan Alheri Hausa” (Great Giver to the Hausa People) in 2021.
