One of the chieftains of the All Progressive Congress, APC and former Kaduna lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central at the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the statement that was made by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu.
Shehu Sani’s comment was contained in a post that he shared on his official X handle on Friday, August 8, 2025.
His statement is coming after the INEC chairman said prisoners will be allowed to vote in elections. The INEC chairman also listed some countries that allow prisoners to vote during elections.
Here is what Mahmood Yakubu said according to Channels TV;
“In many parts of the world, including some African countries such as Ghana, Kenya and South Africa where our officials observed elections, inmates exercised the right to vote”.
However, Senator Shehu Sani has now shared his thoughts after the report surfaced online. In a post that he shared on his official X handle, he welcomed the decision that was announced by the electoral body.
Here is what Shehu Sani wrote on his official X handle;
“That prison inmates will vote in Nigeria’s next election is good news. That is almost about 100,000 votes. Speaking from experience as an ex prisoner, I know that the long term serving inmates and the cell governors and their exco will control the votes”.
