Public affairs analyst Victor Sorokwu has weighed in on former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s evolving political journey, raising important questions about his national appeal ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Siverbird N24, Sorokwu commended Obi for taking steps many Igbo politicians have long avoided building cross-regional alliances and engaging with leaders beyond the Southeast. He described this as a necessary move for any serious contender aiming for national leadership.
Despite these efforts, Sorokwu expressed doubt about Obi’s ability to gain full support from the North. He pointed out that Obi previously sought the presidential ticket under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was unsuccessful. He stated that now, Obi is aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition, which has positioned itself as a strong opposition force.
Victor said,
“Peter Obi is someone truly that is beginning to do what the Igbos need to do, by way of building bridges, forming alliances. But can the North trust him with the ticket for the main opposition party? He tried in the PDP, he didn’t get it. Now in ADC.”
