The South South Zonal Caretaker Committee Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Emmanuel Ogidi, reportedly disclosed that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) would review the conduct of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and reach a decision in the following week.

According to Daily Trust, Ogidi, in a television interview on Tuesday, was said to have expressed the party’s growing dissatisfaction with Wike’s actions, stating that it was prepared to take appropriate steps regarding the matter.

It was recalled that Wike, in a separate television interview on Monday, had allegedly issued conditions for peace within the party. He was reported to have insisted that the South South zonal congress conducted by his faction—though previously rejected—must be recognised by the party.

Wike was also said to have demanded that the party disown the South East zonal congress that produced Ali Odefa and others as leaders, stating that this was a necessary step for reconciliation ahead of the convention.

He was quoted as saying that although the situation appeared calm for the moment, there were unresolved issues. He reportedly insisted that the outcome of their South South congress held in Calabar must stand, describing it as non-negotiable.

He also challenged the claim made by the acting national chairman that PDP governors did not support the congress, questioning the current whereabouts of those governors. He maintained that Chief Dan Orbih had emerged as the national vice chairman and warned that if the congress was not upheld, another crisis could erupt.

But reacting, Ogidi said, “PDP is a big family, but I can tell you the NWC will take action on Wike next week, because you cannot serve two masters. I don’t know why the APC is tolerating him, because he is also doing damage to them with his utterances.

“We have been restraining ourselves, there is no crisis, there are only two legs left – NEC this month and convention. Even if he is starting another crisis, he is on his own but I appreciate his frustration.

Ogidi reportedly stated that Wike appeared to be pursuing the agenda of the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that the party had been tolerating him out of respect for his previous contributions.

He acknowledged that Wike had performed well in the past and had achieved a lot, but pointed out that others within the party had also made significant contributions.

He was quoted as saying that Wike had taken things too far and that, although he had tried to restrain himself and avoid being emotional, there were times when it became necessary to speak plainly.
