A Former Leader of Rivers State House of Assembly, Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja has alleged that none of the 23 Local Government Chairmen in Rivers State would return to their Council Secretariats after their tenure’s expiration on Wednesday.

He asserted their acknowledgment of their term’s conclusion, dismissing any speculation about attempts to unlawfully extend their time in office. He also noted that these council leaders had challenged the state government in court, which ruled that certain sections could not be amended mid-term. He affirmed that altering rules during an ongoing term was impermissible.

He said in an interview with Channels TV From 19:44, ”The Local government Chairmen went to the Appeal Court and the appeal court didn’t allow them to join the suits. These council chairmen took the state government to Court and the Court said look this section cannot be amended. You can’t shift the goalposts in the middle of the game.

You took an oath of office for three years and that 3 years will expire on the 17th of June. And that is it. Nobody has taken an oath of office for a period of time and then seek to extend their tenure, it hasn’t happened anywhere in the history of politics. Forget about what is going on in the Media, none of the LG Chairmen will go to their Council Secretariat on Wednesday. They won’t because they know their tenure has expired.”…..Sée Móre
