According to a report by The Sun on Monday, August 4, 2025, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar over his frequent defections from one political party to another.

Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Monday, August 4, 2025, Wike questioned the consistency of the former vice president, especially given his age and long-standing political experience.

According to Wike, Atiku’s repeated switches between parties since 1999 raise concerns about his political intentions and credibility.

“If I were Atiku Abubakar’s son, I would sit him down and ask, “Dad, how can you keep hopping from one political party to another at almost 80 years old?” he said.

Wike traced Atiku’s political history, recalling that he started with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999, moved to the Action Congress (AC), returned to the PDP, later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), and again returned to the PDP, all in an effort to secure a presidential ticket.

He said Atiku’s most recent move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was a continuation of the same pattern.

The FCT Minister also dismissed the opposition coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu, labelling it ineffective.

He claimed Atiku’s push for the coalition stemmed from his realisation that he would not be able to secure the PDP’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
