FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has responded to criticisms from Senator Ireti Kingibe by demanding that she should understand her legislative responsibilities.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Wike dismissed the senator’s complaints about not being included in project commissioning events and other official activities. “I don’t need you to work with me, you went and said you want to go to the Senate. You went to say you want to go to House of Representatives. Therefore, you should know the role you should play. It is not just for you to come to the national television to say, ‘He’s not inviting me to the commissioning of a project.’ He’s not inviting me for us to have a drink. That is not the job we’re talking about,” he stated.
The FCT Minister questioned Senator Kingibe’s performance as the FCT’s representative since taking office.
According to Wike, FCT lawmakers should leverage their positions to secure special interventions from the federal government. He argued that the unique status of the Federal Capital Territory warrants special consideration in federal budget allocations and development programs.
The Minister expressed disappointment that no such special claims or interventions have been secured by the current FCT legislative representatives.
Senator Ireti Kingibe had previously accused the FCT Minister of refusing to engage with her to work together and solve issues in the FCT. She claimed to have attempted reaching out to Wike several times to settle their differences, but alleged he refused her overtures.
