According to a report by The Sun Nigeria on August 4, 2025, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga launched a fiery verbal assault on Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, questioning his recent one-term pledge and branding him a chronic promise breaker.

The scathing remarks, made via Onanuga’s verified X (formerly Twitter) account @aonanuga1956, are stirring intense debate across political circles.

In what many now describe as one of the boldest political takedowns in recent months, Onanuga dismissed Obi’s vow to serve only a single term if elected President, claiming his political history contradicts the very foundation of such a promise.

“You are neither a Mandela, nor a Lincoln, nor a Kennedy—stop pretending like you’ve ever held office before!” Onanuga thundered online, directly ridiculing Obi’s efforts to align himself with revered historical figures known for their principled leadership.

Onanuga did not stop there. He pointed out what he described as Obi’s hypocrisy, highlighting that while the former Anambra State Governor now promotes himself as a one-term leader, he sought re-election in 2010. According to the presidential aide, Obi only narrowly won that second term due to a fractured opposition.

“If you truly believed in one term, why didn’t you walk away after your first in Anambra?” Onanuga questioned. “You clung to power then—what makes your current vow believable now?”

He went further to argue that despite Obi’s eight years in office, Anambra didn’t undergo the transformation he claims, adding, “If you couldn’t change Anambra in eight years, what magic do you intend to perform in just four for Nigeria—a much more complex nation?”

In a direct jab at Obi’s political loyalty, Onanuga also reminded Nigerians of Obi’s defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), even after pledging loyalty to the party.
