As reported by Punch, Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, says there’s no way a political alliance between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi can defeat President Tinubu in 2027. Speaking on a political show, he called the idea a dead-end and described it as “an unfruitful adventure.” According to him, Nigerians have seen these political moves before and won’t fall for them again. “Some of these tactics are expired. They won’t work anymore,” he said. He also took a swipe at one of the opposition leaders, accusing him of living large and pretending to fight for the masses. “You can’t park 500 cars in your garage and tell Nigerians you want to rescue them,” he added.
Keyamo argued that what really matters now is whether the Tinubu government is getting the basics right—and he believes it is. “The economy is stabilising. Foreign reserves are steady, revenue is rising, and the naira is bouncing back,” he said. He brushed off concerns about food prices, saying the opposition is using emotional tricks instead of looking at the bigger picture. “They focus on yams and ignore real progress,” he said.
On Obi’s influence, Keyamo said it won’t carry the same weight in 2027. “If Obi becomes a running mate, he’ll lose a lot of support. The Christian base will pull back, and the South-East won’t follow Atiku again. Even the youth won’t back an 80-year-old candidate,” he said.
