According to a report by The Sun on Sunday, August 3, 2025, the National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Yabagi Yusuf Sani, has given reasons why his party withdrew from the ongoing plans by some political parties to form a coalition aimed at taking over power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Sani, in a recent interview, made it clear that the proposed alliance is not built on a solid foundation and cannot lead to meaningful political change in the country.

According to him, the idea of forming a coalition has become a familiar and recycled strategy that lacks practical direction.

He pointed out that history has shown that such arrangements have failed to deliver the expected results due to weak coordination and lack of unity among opposition leaders.

Sani emphasized that nothing has changed in the political system to suggest that the current attempt would be any different from past efforts that failed.

He believes that the current political environment does not support the emergence of a strong opposition that can stand against the ruling party.

According to him, the opposition is divided and lacks the necessary structure to compete effectively.

He noted that even with amendments or reforms, the core problems still remain and no significant progress has been made towards building a stronger platform.

Yabagi Sani expressed disappointment that some politicians are repeating past mistakes without learning from them.

He stressed that power cannot be won through press conferences or informal meetings but through serious groundwork, strategic planning, and building trust with the people.

According to him, without these, any political coalition will be a waste of time and resources.

He also mentioned that ADP is focused on its internal structure and capacity building ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party wants to build a solid base that reflects the true will of the people and not rely on alliances that are likely to collapse under pressure.

Sani explained that ADP’s decision to stay out of the coalition is part of a broader plan to remain independent and work directly with grassroots supporters.

Sani argued that Nigerian politics has not yet matured to the level where opposition unity can thrive.

He said: It is dead on the start. Not even on arrival. It is dead on the takeoff, you know, as far as getting change of government because of the factors I have mentioned to you, which are historical, which are things that we have lived through.

And like I asked, has anything changed? All these amendments that we are talking about, wait until it comes to the time for them to pass.
