According to the report from the Vanguard, Former Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George, recently disclosed the rationale behind his decision to step down from his role within the national team setup. George officially tendered his resignation letter to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the weekend. This move came in response to the NFF’s announcement of their intention to engage a foreign technical adviser to oversee the team.
Following George’s decision, Colin Udoh, a former media officer for the Eagles, affirmed in a video posted on social media that he had personally spoken to George regarding his resignation. Udoh recounted, “Finidi confirmed to me that he resigned his position indeed.”
According to Udoh, the trigger for George’s resignation stemmed from a recent meeting between George and the NFF officials. During this meeting, discussions unfolded regarding the team’s future direction and George’s potential involvement. Notably, at no point was George informed of the NFF’s decision to appoint a foreign technical adviser.
Udoh detailed, “At no point during that meeting did anyone tell him they were going to appoint a foreign technical adviser.” The pivotal decision to bring in a foreign technical adviser was made by the NFF board during a meeting held on Wednesday.
However, it was only upon George’s return to Port Harcourt that he was notified about this development by a phone call. This unexpected revelation led George to feel sidelined and unappreciated, prompting his swift decision to resign.
George opted to formally resign from his coaching role after two days of unfruitful communication with the NFF, interpreting their silence as a signal of their disinterest in retaining him within the setup.
