According to a media post on 1 August 2025 by the Media Aide to the Governor, Honourable Lawal Muazu Bauchi, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Senator Abdul Ningi, and other dignitaries have returned to Nigeria following a high-level engagement in The Gambia.

The visit, led by former President Jonathan, focused on fostering bilateral relations and promoting democratic governance in the West African nation. The delegation engaged with Gambian leaders and stakeholders on matters related to peace building, regional stability, and democratic development.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who was part of the delegation, expressed optimism about the outcomes of the trip, noting that such engagements are essential for advancing regional cooperation and deepening democratic values across Africa.

The visit was also seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the role of African statesmen in conflict resolution, good governance, and electoral support missions within the continent.
