A recent post on his X page, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, stirred political debate after he directed sharp words at Labour Party’s Peter Obi. Olayinka questioned Obi’s political allegiance ahead of the 2027 elections, suggesting that the former Anambra State governor must decisively choose between staying with the Labour Party (LP) or aligning with the opposition coalition, now allegedly dominated by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In his typically satirical tone, Olayinka wrote: “Mr ONE SHOE must choose where he belongs. Eluu Pee or Kolision? But e be like say nah new party he dey find now, as Permanent Presidential candidate don take over Kolision.” His remarks imply that Obi, who has remained a central figure in Nigerian opposition politics, appears uncertain about his next political move. Olayinka further hints that Atiku Abubakar, widely regarded as a long-term contender for the presidency, has already consolidated control over the opposition coalition—possibly sidelining Obi’s influence within that space.
The post adds fuel to growing speculation about the internal dynamics and future direction of Nigeria’s opposition. Olayinka’s commentary, reflecting Wike’s often combative political style, underscores the rising tensions between key opposition figures as they position themselves for 2027. With Atiku seemingly strengthening his grip on the coalition and Peter Obi reportedly exploring alternative paths, the battle lines for the next presidential race may already be taking shape, long before official campaigns begin.
