Senator Adams Oshiomhole has reacted to the recent warning by Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, who told Peter Obi not to visit the state without informing him first. The governor said Obi’s security might not be guaranteed if he came unannounced, which caused a lot of backlash from the public.
Speaking in an interview on Arise Television, Oshiomhole said the matter should not be blown out of proportion. He believes Peter Obi himself understands that it is simply respectful to notify a sitting governor when visiting their state, especially for public events.
Oshiomhole shared his own experience. He explained that when he was invited to speak at a university in Anambra State, he informed the then-governor ahead of his visit. In return, he was given some security support, which he appreciated.
He pointed out that Lagos is a special case because it is always busy and the governor cannot attend to every visitor. That’s why people usually go in and out of Lagos freely without any special arrangements.
Oshiomhole made it clear that although he is no longer a governor or a presidential candidate, he still finds it proper to inform any governor before entering their state, no matter the political party.
In his words, “I’m sure you know Governor Peter Obi, whatever he wants to say, he knows that this is not a big deal.”
