With tensions rising over the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s dwindling presence in the South-East, Chief Uche Nnaji delivered a scathing directive to the party’s leadership, warning that continued marginalization of key Igbo political figures like Rotimi Amaechi and the late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu will spell electoral disaster in 2027.
Speaking passionately during a political roundtable dissecting APC’s regional weaknesses, Chief Nnaji, a former governorship candidate and respected South-East elder, didn’t hold back. “This party is dancing on the edge of a cliff.
If you want the Igbo vote, bring back Amaechi—publicly—and give Ogbonnaya Onu the national honor he earned ten times over,” he declared.
His statement immediately sparked reactions across social and political platforms, especially in the South-East, where many believe the APC has failed to properly recognize and empower their leaders.
Nnaji insisted that without these symbolic and strategic gestures, the region will continue to see APC as an outsider party.
“Ogbonnaya Onu was the brain behind the merger. Amaechi was the engine of 2015. Yet today, one is forgotten, the other is sidelined.
That is political suicide!” Nnaji warned, slamming the current leadership for what he described as “deliberate erasure.”
He directed his message squarely at Dr. Nawei Yil Wata, the new APC national chairman, saying, “You cannot unify Nigeria when your party disrespects the East. Do the right thing—or bury your hopes in that region.”
The call has since gained traction among young APC supporters and legacy members from the region, many of whom feel the South-East has only received symbolic inclusion while lacking meaningful representation in national leadership or ministerial power.
Nnaji’s warning comes amid a wider conversation on zoning, reconciliation, and the future of the party’s national spread. While some argue the APC must look forward and build new alliances, Nnaji believes the foundation remains critical.
