The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has issued a public apology to the people of Edo State for his role in the 2020 political events that, according to him, contributed to bad governance in the state.

In a video shared by TVC News on Monday from 1:12, Wike openly admitted that his involvement in Edo State politics five years ago had a negative impact. Speaking with an air of remorse, Wike said he regrets backing forces that failed to deliver good governance to the people.

“I want to say today, being the 22nd of July 2025, I apologize to the people of Edo State that I led the war in 2020 in Edo State to give you bad governance,” Wike declared.

The former governor of Rivers State played a prominent role during the 2020 Edo gubernatorial election, supporting Governor Godwin Obaseki in his re-election campaign after Obaseki decamped from the All Progressives Congress to the People’s Democratic Party.

Wike’s apology comes amid heightened political tension in Edo ahead of the 2025 governorship election. His remarks are already stirring conversations among party loyalists and political observers, with many questioning whether the comment signals a shift in his political alliances or a broader attempt to distance himself from past affiliations.

As political realignments unfold ahead of the elections, Wike’s confession is likely to become a major talking point in the evolving political narrative in Edo State.
