According to a report by The Punch on July 20, 2025, cleric Prince Vincent Okah shared more details surrounding the ransom negotiations following the abduction of his daughter, Andrel Okah, and her friend, John Abba.
Okah said the abductors reached out a week after the incident, demanding N300,000 for her release. Though he pleaded to speak with his daughter, they told him she was unconscious. In an attempt to secure her safety, he played along with their requests and began negotiations.
According to him, “Yes. A week after her abduction, I received calls from unknown persons. I asked to speak with my daughter, but they claimed she was unconscious. I didn’t want to seem uncooperative, so I negotiated with them. They initially demanded N300,000, and I sent N210,000 in total—N60,000 to one caller and N150,000 to another. They wouldn’t let me speak to her but insisted I would see her if I paid. I kept the police informed, and they tracked the phone numbers.”
Despite the payments, the suspects failed to return the victims. However, Okah said the police used the information from the phone numbers to begin tracing the people behind the calls.
The tracking effort by law enforcement was a critical step that later contributed to arrests made in Lagos. According to Okah, the phone tracking efforts confirmed that the criminals were still operating their schemes from within the country, and it strengthened his belief that justice would eventually be served.
