According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, July 18,2025,a senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, died during what police suspected to be a sexual encounter with a 22-year-old student.
The incident happened on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at a hotel in Anyigba. The hotel manager later reported it to the police.
The student, named Gloria Samuel, is a 200-level student of the university. She was arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further questioning.
Police spokesperson, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the event and called it unfortunate, saying that an autopsy has already been done to find out what caused the lecturer’s death.
The hotel manager, Moses Friday, told police that the student ran to the reception, saying the lecturer had collapsed after their time together.
The police were called right away, and the lecturer was taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed he was dead.
Dr. Ibikunle, who was married with children, had checked into the hotel earlier that day with the student, who is from the Department of Social Studies Education.
Unconfirmed reports revealed that the lecturer may have taken several energy drinks before the incident,but the police are still investigating and will take further action after getting full results.
