Deputy Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, has expressed satisfaction over the exit of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar from the PDP, stating that his prolonged presence in the party had hindered its progress.
Speaking in an interview with Arise News Television, Abdullahi recalled that Atiku Abubakar had previously left the PDP on three different occasions, and as such, his most recent resignation should not be seen as a significant blow or loss to the party. According to him, Atiku has always been a self-centered politician, fixated on achieving his long-standing ambition of becoming the President of Nigeria.
Abdullahi further argued that Atiku failed to unite key political figures within the PDP after clinching the party’s presidential ticket. He noted that many members, including himself, did not expect Atiku to celebrate the exit of Peter Obi from the PDP, knowing full well that Obi would have been a valuable asset to the party’s 2023 presidential campaign.
He said:
“Many of us in the PDP expected that Atiku Abubakar would not celebrate the loss of Peter Obi, the same Peter Obi who they are rallying now into the coalition. We only fear and advise Peter Obi to be careful because that is a contraption.”
Abdullahi added that several prominent PDP members fell out with the party after Atiku was given the presidential ticket for a second time. He expressed disappointment that the former Vice President appeared indifferent to the grievances of these individuals, a stance which, according to him, significantly contributed to his loss in the 2023 elections.
