According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Monday, 14 July, 2025, a former member of the Presidential Campaign Communication Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Bakare, has expressed doubts about the credibility and strength of the opposition coalition currently forming under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He made this known during an interview where he gave his view on the political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Bola Bakare, the ADC does not meet the standard to be called a true coalition party. He argued that in the past, political coalitions that made a strong impact were made up of full-fledged political parties with established structures and nationwide presence.

Bola Bakare believes that any serious coalition intending to unseat an incumbent president must be built on strong foundations. He explained that the present situation within the opposition, especially the one being spearheaded by the ADC, is weak and not convincing enough.

He questioned how a party like the ADC, which he described as having no solid base, could bring together a meaningful coalition capable of defeating a sitting government.

He also touched on the possible return of Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, as a major contender in 2027. Bola Bakare acknowledged that Peter Obi is a well-meaning individual who made an impact in the last general elections, especially with the support he received from youths and new voters.

He said, “let’s talk about my kid brother, Peter Obi. He’s a nice guy, a good guy, a young man with a solid perspective. He has what it takes, but let’s be honest, his own people, people who knew him while he was governor of Anambra State, didn’t always speak well of him. Yes, he did well with the Labour Party, he made impact. But right now? We’re at a crossroads. That’s the truth.
