According to a report by The Times Of Israel on April 21, 2026, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking at the state Memorial Day ceremony at Mount Herzl, warned that the Islamic Republic of Iran had intended to carry out mass destruction against Israel and Jewish communities.

He said the ayatollah-led government had pursued a plan he described as comparable to past atrocities, claiming it aimed to develop nuclear weapons and deploy thousands of ballistic missiles against Israel.

Netanyahu stated: “The ayatollah regime in Iran planned another Holocaust,” adding that Iran’s military ambitions posed a severe threat to Israel’s survival. He argued that key Iranian nuclear facilities, including Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan, would have become globally infamous had the situation not been addressed. “It sought to destroy us with nuclear weapons and thousands of ballistic missiles. Had we not acted decisively, the names Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan might have joined Auschwitz, Majdanek, and Treblinka.”

He further said that coordinated action with the United States prevented what he called an imminent danger. “because together with our great ally, the United States, we dismantled that machinery of destruction in advance. We removed an immediate existential threat,” he said. Netanyahu stressed that this cooperation was central to neutralizing Iran’s alleged capabilities before they could be used.

He added that the broader goal of Israel’s security policy was to ensure national survival and continuity. “That is the essence of this campaign,” he said, “to ensure that the lifeline of the Jewish people is never cut.”

Concluding his remarks, Netanyahu highlighted national unity during the Memorial Day ceremony, referencing the shared sacrifice of different communities. “Jews and Druze, shoulder to shoulder — alongside Christians, Muslims, Bedouins, Circassians — all united in a vital mission,” he said, noting the collective contribution of Israel’s diverse society in times of conflict and remembrance.
