During a recent Senate plenary session, Senator Adams Oshiomhole expressed strong disapproval of the decision to allow a WAEC staff member to retire despite serious accusations of misconduct. He reacted to the recommendations of a Senate committee that had investigated the woman’s actions.

In a video shared by Viable TV 0.39, Oshiomhole said the woman committed what he called “atrocities” and that in a fair society, she should be facing prison, not retirement. He criticized the idea of allowing her to receive a pension, warning that it sends the wrong message to the public and especially to young Nigerians who will one day be taxpayers.

He said, “What is the basis for commuting her retirement? So that Nigerian taxpayers, including her victims, will pay her pension?” He argued that actions like these only encourage corruption, as many public servants would prefer to quietly retire after doing wrong, rather than be punished.

Oshiomhole urged the Senate to act boldly and not give in to emotions or public sympathy. “This Senate, under your common leadership, must be seen not to bow to sentiment. This woman deserves much more serious punishment than retirement,” he stated. He also suggested that the matter be forwarded to the Attorney General so that proper legal punishment could be pursued.

He concluded by emphasizing that such serious offenses should not be treated lightly, as doing so weakens public trust in government institutions.
