Comrade Kennedy Iyere, a prominent figure in the Obedient Movement and coordinator general of the Youth Economic Intervention and Deradicalization Program, made headlines during a fiery appearance on Arise TV as he clashed with journalist Rufai Oseni over the controversial 2019 general election and the state of Nigeria’s opposition coalition.
Speaking on the 2019 presidential election, Iyere insisted that the results were not credible, alleging that former President Muhammadu Buhari did not win the election. He said, “We all supported Atiku from behind because of the way the Buhari administration ruined our economy. That election, you people are the journalists. It was won not by Buhari. INEC rigged Atiku out.”
He challenged Rufai live on air to bring him back to defend his claims, stating, “If you bring me here again, I’ll prove it to you.”
The interview grew even more tense as Rufai pressed him for empirical evidence. Iyere, unfazed, stood his ground and threw down the gauntlet: “ An I’m telling you, if you ever dare to bring me here, you give me 30 minutes I will teach you a lesson you will never forget.”
He went on to clarify that the Obedient Movement was not founded by Peter Obi, contrary to public perception. “Peter Obi didn’t form the Obedient Movement. We formed, drove, funded, galvanized, and bequitted it to him,” he said.
Iyere called for a broader youth-led revolution that transcends individuals. “What I am after is to build a movement of young people by the young people for the young people. The youth should decide what transpires in 2027.”
In his closing remarks, he reiterated that his goal was not to create a new Peter Obi but to reawaken the movement that once mobilized millions. “Nigeria has a lot of good people who can come out, It must not be Obi. We gave Obi all the support he needed from us in 2023. For me as a person, I’m not supporting him. I have my reasons. It’s a democracy.
