According to The Sun News, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has expressed scepticism about the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in Lagos on Thursday, George said that even a political alliance between Atiku and Obi would not ensure victory against Tinubu because, in his view, the coalition that aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was driven by personal ambitions and could easily collapse if those ambitions are not achieved.
He noted that Atiku was aware he could not secure the PDP ticket since it is the South’s turn, which was why he led a coalition of opposition figures that moved to the ADC. George appealed to those who had defected from the PDP to return, stressing that the party had groomed and shaped them and that it would serve their best interest to come back.
“I appeal to their sense of reasoning and conscience to reflect. Would you abandon your father’s house because it has a leaking roof, only to go live as a tenant elsewhere? You were admired and respected, and this same party moulded you into who you are today. My advice, since their journey has just begun, is to tread carefully because their group cannot compare to ours—absolutely not!
“Our founding fathers came together and agreed to divide the country into six geopolitical zones and then allocated six key positions accordingly. This arrangement ensures that every zone, whether from a majority or minority group, benefits equally,” he said.
He said, “General Buhari, who ran this nation for eight years, where is he from? Is he not Katsina? Is he from Lagos? Or is he from Calabar? Turn by turn, Nigeria limited.”
George further stated that it would be disrespectful to the party’s founding fathers most of whom have passed away for a northern candidate to contest under the PDP in 2027, adding that such a move would go against the principles on which the party was built.
