Senator Osita Ngwu has condemned what he describes as continued marginalization of Nigeria’s Southeast region, calling out the federal government for neglecting critical infrastructure projects and excluding the region from budgetary allocations.

His frustration was captured in a video shared by TV Platinum, where he cited the abandoned Ivo Dam project in Enugu State as a striking example of this injustice.

“The Southeast cannot continually be treated the way Nigeria is treating the Southeast,” Ngwu asserted.

“Let me give you an instance, out of the dams that were listed here on the Southeast, Ivo Dam was last funded about 22 years ago with N5 billion spent on it, and it has been abandoned by Nigeria for the last 12 years.”

Ngwu revealed that his efforts to revive the project have been ignored. “We have done everything possible to see if they can bring up Ivo Dam. I have written three letters to the Ministry of Water Resources. Nothing meaningful has come out of it,” he said.

He expressed outrage over the federal government’s budgetary decisions, citing a glaring imbalance.

“And here, a zone is allocated N66 billion, and the entire Southeast is at zero. What kind of omission is that?” Ngwu questioned.

The senator’s remarks have ignited fresh debate over the perceived neglect of the Southeast in national development planning. Many observers view the Ivo Dam as a critical project that could provide water, agriculture, and power solutions to the region if completed.
