A young Nigerian woman has opened up about the emotional and practical challenges of being in a long-distance marriage with her husband, who resides in Italy.

Speaking during an interview on The Lucky Udu Experience from 7:33, she shared that although she and her husband have been together for seven years, they only officially got married in 2023. However, since their marriage, they have only physically met twice.

She explained that her husband was not present at their traditional marriage ceremony and was represented by someone else. He only returned to Nigeria briefly for their court wedding.

When asked why she hasn’t joined him in Italy, she revealed the major obstacle has been her husband’s unstable work situation.

“Anytime he wants to come back to Nigeria, he usually quits his job because the kind of work he does only allows him to take leave twice a year.”

“Sometimes, they don’t allow him to go on leave at all. The only time he can travel is if he resigns.”

She added that each time he returns to Nigeria, they end up spending heavily on family responsibilities, and upon his return to Italy, he has to start job-hunting all over again.

“Over there, without a stable job, you can’t finalize your spouse’s visa. He had a two-year visa, which has now expired. To renew it, he needs a stable job,” she said.

According to her, the separation is not due to a lack of love, but due to difficult circumstances.

“Because of our marriage, he doesn’t want to stay here to avoid cheating. He always tries to come back every eight months. We’ve been married for two years, and he has only been to Nigeria twice during that time,” she said.

When asked how long she can endure the situation, she admitted,

“I don’t think I can continue. I’m tired. He’s tired too. Sometimes, people get tired of long-distance relationships—not because there’s no love, but because of certain circumstances.”
