During a thanksgiving ceremony organized to celebrate the completion of several major projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike delivered a firm message on religious liberty and personal choice in worship.

Addressing the congregation, Wike stated clearly, “I’m not a member of your church. Don’t tie me. any day I want to go to a mosque I will go.” The comment, which was captured in a video posted by TVC, quickly gained traction online, igniting a wide range of reactions across social media.

Known for speaking without filters, Wike used the opportunity to assert that his official duties do not infringe on his freedom to practice any religion of his choosing. He criticized individuals attempting to define his beliefs based on assumptions or affiliations, making it clear that he cannot be confined to one religious label.

“I owe nobody any explanation about where I choose to worship. My faith is between me and God, and nobody has the right to box me in,” he further stated.

Wike’s remarks come at a time when the religious preferences of public officials are increasingly placed under the spotlight. His words are being viewed by political commentators as both a personal stance and a pointed reaction to those questioning his religious alignment.
