Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed why he did not choose the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as his running mate, saying Wike was not dropped because of betrayal but because he was rejected by key party stakeholders for his divisive style.

Atiku, speaking with associates in Abuja, said Wike’s clashes with party leaders and lack of trust cost him the chance to be picked as running mate.

“Wike was not dropped because he betrayed anyone. He was rejected because many party elders could not trust him. His attitude alienated many people,” Atiku reportedly said.

He added that Wike’s actions during the primaries worsened the crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Reacting, a loyalist of Wike dismissed Atiku’s explanation, saying Wike stood for fairness when the party leadership undermined the South.

“Wike was never rejected. He chose to stand for what was right. Atiku should look in the mirror to know why he lost,” the loyalist said.
