In a report published by Daily Trust on July 6, 2025, Phrank Shaibu, Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, voiced strong disapproval and frustration over what he described as renewed efforts to infiltrate the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Shaibu recalled that a similar infiltration had occurred in 2023, when individuals manipulated their way into power and, in a display of audacity, joined their benefactors in public celebration. He condemned these actors as “vagabonds” and declared that the scheme to sabotage the coalition party was transparent from the outset—and ultimately doomed to failure.
Elaborating further, Shaibu recounted that on the very day the ADC formally launched its platform, the attempt to derail it became immediately apparent. He referenced a controversial statement by Festus Keyamo, who, without solicitation, publicly suggested that Peter Obi should be handed the ADC’s presidential ticket. According to Shaibu, this unsolicited recommendation was not an act of goodwill, but a strategic maneuver designed to fracture the party’s unity, incite internal strife, and halt the momentum the coalition had begun to build.
Shaibu’s remarks paint a picture of a calculated political subterfuge, masked by feigned support but aimed squarely at destabilizing the ADC’s growing influence. His comments reflect broader concerns within the opposition about covert strategies being used to undermine credible political alternatives in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
According to him, “They infiltrated us in 2023, and after rigging themselves into power, the vagabonds they planted shamelessly joined them in celebration. Now, they’re at it again — but this time, the people know better. Why should the architects of our misery be the ones prescribing our leaders?
