Legal analyst and public affairs commentator, Liborous Oshoma, has shared his thoughts on the recent political moves ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election. Speaking in an interview with TV360 Nigeria, Oshoma reacted to reports that Peter Obi might agree to serve only one term if it helps unite the opposition.
He warned that Nigerian politicians often say one thing before elections but do something else after gaining power.
“Even former President Olusegun Obasanjo signed a one-term agreement back in 2003,” Oshoma recalled. “But when they get into power, it’s a different ball game altogether.”
According to Oshoma, politicians are willing to make any promises—even unrealistic ones—just to win elections. “They can even enter an agreement with the devil just to get power,” he said.
He also expressed concern that while politicians are already busy planning for 2027, many everyday Nigerians are not paying attention or getting involved. “The ordinary Nigerian is just seated, docile,” Oshoma said. “It’s time for them to wake up and decide what kind of future they want.”
He urged citizens to be more active in the political process and think critically about the choices before them—whether to stick with the usual political parties like APC, PDP, and ADC, or to push for real change.
