Marvin Yobana, a former Khana Local Government Area chairman and ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, discussed the recent peace accord between Fubara, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the Rivers State House of Assembly, following a crisis that prompted President Bola Tinubu to suspend both the governor and lawmakers.
In a TVC interview, Yobana revealed that after the agreement was finalized at the Presidential Villa, Fubara urged his supporters to stay calm and avoid actions that could jeopardize the peace process.
Yobana noted that Fubara emphasized his significant sacrifices to restore stability in Rivers State, encouraging his followers to prioritize good governance from his administration. He also relayed Fubara’s directive to align with Wike’s political leadership and guidance in matters of politics, signaling a commitment to unity.
Additionally, Yobana highlighted Fubara’s call for supporters to express gratitude to President Tinubu for his intervention in resolving the conflict.
In Yobana’s words: “The governor went further after that meeting to come back to us who are his supporters to tell us clearly that we should not do anything that will derail this peace process, that he (Fubara) has given up everything, that we should look up to him for good governance like what he promised the Rivers people and anything political we should look up to the FCT minister and that we should respect him.”
The agreement, brokered to end a prolonged power struggle, aims to foster cooperation among the state’s key political figures. Yobana’s remarks reflect Fubara’s focus on maintaining peace and delivering effective governance while acknowledging Tinubu’s role in de-escalating tensions in Rivers State, a critical region for Nigeria’s oil economy.
