According to Vanguard, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has formally presented a proposal advocating for a single four-year term to the opposition coalition for their consideration.

This was revealed by Dr. Yinusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, during the occasion when Obi was honored with the chieftaincy title ‘Sarki Maskan’ (War Hero).

Dr. Tanko expressed confidence that the opposition coalition would support Obi’s vision for a single-term presidency.

He emphasized that Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, does not require more than four years to initiate the significant transformation the country desperately needs.

Tanko elaborated on this point, saying, “We have presented it to the coalition. It is there for them to make a decision. But we are confident it can work. This is a pronouncement rooted in integrity, and Peter Obi embodies that. What Nigeria needs now are leaders with integrity.”

Highlighting Obi’s commitment, Tanko pointed out that although the single-term proposal is not currently enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution, Obi has openly pledged to serve only one tenure if elected.

Obi’s dedication to this promise underscores his readiness and focus.

Tanko remarked, “Obi has said clearly — even though the single term is not in the constitution — that he is committing himself to serve only one tenure. He believes four years is more than enough to accomplish his mission. That shows you how prepared and focused he is.”

The potential impact of Obi’s leadership, according to Tanko, could be transformative. He suggested that stabilizing Nigeria’s electricity supply alone would address a wide range of issues the country faces.

Moreover, Obi’s promise to restore Nigeria as an exporting nation reflects his ambitious goals.

“He is promising that under his leadership, Nigeria will become an exporting country again. Planes will no longer leave our airports empty,” Tanko said.

In a recent live discussion on X Spaces, Peter Obi reiterated his willingness to contest the 2027 presidential election.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serving a single four-year term if he wins, emphasizing his focus on delivering tangible results within that timeframe.

Obi’s approach signals a break from traditional political ambitions and a dedication to purposeful governance.
