Vanguard reports that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, has officially submitted a proposal to the opposition coalition advocating for a single four-year term.
This announcement was made by Dr. Yinusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, during a ceremony where Obi was awarded the chieftaincy title ‘Sarki Maskan’ (War Hero).
Dr. Tanko expressed optimism that the opposition coalition would embrace Obi’s vision for a single-term presidency.
He stressed that Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, does not need more than four years to bring about the significant changes the country urgently requires.
Tanko elaborated, stating, “We have presented it to the coalition. It is now up to them to decide. However, we are confident it can succeed. This proposal is based on integrity, which Peter Obi represents. What Nigeria needs at this moment is leadership grounded in integrity.”
Emphasizing Obi’s commitment, Tanko noted that while the single-term proposal is not currently part of Nigeria’s constitution, Obi has publicly committed to serving only one term if elected.
This dedication highlights Obi’s readiness and focus on his mission.
Tanko remarked, “Obi has said clearly — even though the single term is not in the constitution — that he is committing himself to serve only one tenure. He believes four years is more than enough to accomplish his mission. That shows you how prepared and focused he is.”
Tanko believes that Obi’s leadership could lead to significant changes.
He pointed out that improving Nigeria’s electricity supply could help resolve many of the country’s challenges.
Additionally, Obi’s commitment to reestablish Nigeria as an exporting nation showcases his ambitious objectives.
“Under his leadership, he promises that Nigeria will once again be an exporting country, and planes will no longer depart from our airports without cargo,” Tanko remarked.
During a recent live conversation on X Spaces, Peter Obi expressed his intention to run for the 2027 presidential election.
He reiterated his promise to serve only one four-year term if elected, highlighting his goal of achieving concrete results during that period.
Obi’s stance represents a departure from conventional political aspirations and reflects his commitment to meaningful governance.
