There was a major political event in Abuja on Wednesday as leading figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other parties gathered at the Yar’Adua Centre, as reported by Daily Independent, on Wednesday, 2nd July 2025.
They came together to formally announce the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) as the new political platform for a growing opposition coalition.
The move is led by prominent politicians such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President David Mark.
According to the coalition, the ADC will serve as their platform to contest the 2027 general elections.
They said their goal is to remove President Bola Tinubu and end what they described as the failure of both the ruling APC and the opposition PDP.
Several politicians from different backgrounds were present at the event.
Some of them include Senator Matthew Urhoghide, Hon. Aminu Shagari, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, and former senator Dino Melaye.
The coalition leaders said Nigeria needs a fresh start with new leadership.
They also stated that the country is facing serious problems, including poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship.
They believe the ADC-led coalition can offer better leadership and restore hope to Nigerians.
