One of the chieftains of the Labour Party (LP) and former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has reacted to a recent fact-check by Daily Trust which challenged his claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (popularly referred to as BAT) has not slept in any state outside Lagos.
The statement, made during a recent interview, stirred significant debate. Obi had remarked that Tinubu, since leaving office as Lagos State Governor, has not spent nights in other Nigerian states, suggesting a disconnect from the rest of the country.
In response, the source published a detailed fact-check disputing the claim and citing several instances where President Tinubu reportedly stayed overnight outside Lagos, including trips to Abuja, Kano, and Rivers State.
Taking to his official X account on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Obi addressed the fact-check, stating:
“I welcome scrutiny of public statements, including mine. However, the focus should remain on the pressing national issues poverty, insecurity, and bad governance not where someone spends the night. Let us not lose sight of what truly matters.”
