The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that a rerun election will take place in Kogi State on November 2, 2025, following a Supreme Court ruling that annulled portions of the 2023 gubernatorial election due to irregularities.
The court found significant electoral malpractice in three local government areas, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the previous results. This verdict has reignited political activity across the state, with both the ruling party and opposition mobilizing their base for what is expected to be a heated contest.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stated that the rerun would be conducted transparently, with full security and international observers.
The affected areas—Lokoja, Okene, and Dekina—will now become the battleground that determines the political fate of Kogi State.
Political analysts say the outcome of the rerun could either reaffirm the current administration or open the door for new leadership.
