Former Senator and the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the growing tension in Abuja following a mass protest in Abuja.
The workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Monday called for the immediate removal of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The protest, which began as early as 7 a.m., saw workers barricading the main gate of the FCTA Complex in Area 11, chanting solidarity songs and wielding placards with bold inscriptions.
The demonstrators, drawn from various departments, accused the administration of subjecting them to months of unpaid wages, delayed promotions, and general neglect of staff welfare.
Several workers expressed frustration over what they described as worsening conditions under Wike’s leadership, saying the current situation has made it difficult to survive or support their families.
“We are being treated like we don’t matter. No salaries, no promotion, nothing to show for our dedication,” one protester said.
Reacting to the protest, Shehu Sani criticised the National Assembly for ignoring key issues affecting FCT civil servants when the FCT budget was being reviewed. In a post on his official X handle, he wrote:
“When the FCT budget was submitted to the National Assembly, the lawmakers failed to raise the issue of FCT teachers and civil servants’ wages and allowances and only focused on the issue of settling beggars.
“The moment of truth is here with protests and strikes in the capital city.”
His statement has since gone viral, sparking debates about misplaced priorities and the widening disconnect between government policies and the realities faced by public workers.
