Former senator Shehu Sani has dismissed the opposition coalition planning to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, stating that the coalition is already a failed project and described it as “dead on arrival” as reported by THE SUN.

Sani noted that while forming a coalition is a democratic right, the people behind the move lack credibility.

He said their history in politics does not support the change they now claim to stand for.

He warned that any country without a strong opposition risks turning into a one-party state or dictatorship.

According to him, Nigeria needs a vibrant and credible opposition to keep the government in check.

However, Sani said the current coalition is made up of frustrated politicians who are more interested in power than in serving the people.

He stressed that opposition should be built on good ideas and national interest, not anger or personal ambition.

He singled out former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai as an example of what is wrong with the coalition.

Sani described El-Rufai as a long-time government insider who failed to deliver good governance when he had the chance.

Sani pointed out that El-Rufai held many key positions in the past, including Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Governor of Kaduna State for eight years.

He asked why El-Rufai could not bring about the positive changes he now claims to want during his time in office.

The former senator said that after holding such powerful offices for almost 20 years, El-Rufai should not act as though he is a fresh voice for reform.

“There are people in this coalition whose presence will give you ghost pimples. Someone like former governor of Kaduna State, Nasiru El-Rufai.”

“He is not a clean political figure that came out of the trenches; he is not someone who has never been in government.”

“Nigeria just celebrated 26 years of democracy and El-Rufai was the Director-General of Bureau of Public Enterprises for four years, minister for four years, governor for eight years, and so why did he not achieve all those things he is saying now while in office,” he said.
