A senior Iranian academic and pundit has warned that the current ceasefire is merely a tactical pause for Israel and the United States to regroup before launching fresh military attacks against Iran.

This claim was made during a live broadcast on Iran’s state television on Sunday.

Ebrahim Mottaqi, head of the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Tehran, stated that “the available evidence indicates that Israel, with US support, will resume its surprise and destructive military operations against Iran within a week at most.”

Mottaqi stressed that both Israel and the United States view the ceasefire not as a step toward de-escalation but as an opportunity to reorganize and optimize their military strategies. “Israel and the United States view the ceasefire as a means of regrouping and optimizing their own military capabilities,” he said.

His remarks reflect growing anxiety within Iranian political circles about the possibility of renewed conflict. Mottaqi further warned Iranian leaders against trusting the ceasefire, suggesting it could be a deceptive tactic. “Iranian officials would be the targets of such an attack,” he added.

This warning comes amid heightened tensions following recent military escalations between Iran and Israel, including strikes on critical infrastructure and military facilities. While the ceasefire has brought temporary calm, analysts suggest that both sides are using the pause to reassess their positions.
