Senator Neda Imasuen has revealed fresh details of the internal crisis tearing the Labour Party apart, alleging that a factional chairman of the party threatened to expel prominent figures including Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti.

Speaking during an interview on TVC News from 5:48, Senator Imasuen recounted how a Labour Party reconciliation meeting, aimed at uniting party stakeholders was followed by threats and open rebellion from within the party’s leadership.

“Three days after that event, one of the chairmen went on air and said he was going to expel everybody from the party,” Imasuen said. “Who is Peter Obi and who is Otti to call a meeting, Who are they. They don’t have the right and in fact, he said he can expel them from the party. He even said if we don’t rescind all we did, he would carry out the expulsion. That’s quite insulting.”

The senator expressed deep frustration with the escalating infighting within the party, which he described as evidence of a lack of cohesion and respect for leadership.

He said the threats of expulsion targeted not only Peter Obi and Governor Otti, but also lawmakers and party figures who attended the meeting, which was intended to reposition the LP ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Imasuen noted that the public outburst by the factional chairman reflects the extent of Labour Party’s leadership collapse and why key members are deserting the party.

The shocking revelation adds to the growing list of crises that have plagued the Labour Party since the 2023 elections, casting doubt on its stability and ability to function as a credible opposition party moving forward.
